Wadhurst is on target to become the UK’s first BREEAM Excellent care home for older people

Today we handed over Wadhurst Manor – on target to become the UK’s first BREEAM Excellent care home for older people – to Barchester Healthcare.

Arranged over two and three storeys, with the third set in the roof, all 65 bedrooms at the East Sussex home are spacious and have ensuite facilities. The bedrooms are arranged in four wings, each with its own communal facilities, including dining rooms, lounges and assisted bathrooms. There is also a coffee lounge, seating areas, a hairdressing salon and nail and beauty bar as well as balconies and terraces for residents to enjoy the landscaped gardens, which include a sensory garden. There is also a large kitchen, laundry and offices.

This project is backed by Bridges Sustainable Property Fund, which requires schemes to demonstrate environmental leadership. Sustainable features include composting and recycling facilities, sustainably-sourced timber, recycling facilities, strong day-lighting, low flow taps, energy efficient appliances, low-energy lighting and bat boxes built into the roof.
