Castleoak named as Structural Timber Awards finalist
Timber Frame Award

Castleoak is a finalist in the Healthcare Project of the Year category of the Structural Timber Awards 2015.

Commenting on reaching the finals, Castleoak Chief Executive Craig Currie says: “Castleoak exclusively designs and manufactures timber frame buildings for its customers. This unique in-house capability provides a cost-effective, efficient and sustainable off-site construction method that delivers greater programme certainty.

“Our Structural Timber Awards entry is based on our recently completed Tennyson Wharf care home in Burton Waters, Lincolnshire. Developed for Cinnamon Care Capital on behalf of Barchester Healthcare, it’s our 24th timber frame project out of 24 projects for Barchester Healthcare.”

Operations Director Neil Robins adds: “As with all our projects, Tennyson Wharf was the result of the highly evolved process of determining a cost-effective structural solution that was not focused solely on the timber frame.

“Significant consideration was given to foundation costs and the accommodation of mechanical and electrical services within the structure. As well as designing and manufacturing the roof trusses, floor cassettes have been fabricated from ‘I’ joists and pressed web joists. This control of the manufactured components has ensured a fully integrated and carefully co-ordinated structure.

“Burton Waters also benefits from Castleoak’s off site manufactured panels to reduce construction time and mitigate risk by taking key activities off the critical path programme.”

The winner of Healthcare Property of the Year will be announced at the Structural Timber Awards ceremony on Tuesday 6 October 2015.
